“What an epic weekend! Mind-blowing location, insane music and a fantastic crowd all together made our first foray into Southeast Asia one to remember. Big thanks to everyone that came. Can’t wait until next year. Watch this space…!” Rob da Bank
Heart-stirring headline performances from alt-J, Rudimental and Pendulum with momentous sets from De La Soul, George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic, The Cuban Brothers, Purity Ring, Colour Castle, Kilter, Ras Muhamad, Stars and Rabbit and an immense array of local acts across three stages, fuelled the party atmosphere. Add in all the jaw-dropping visual spectacles, iconic installations including a 7-metre Love-bot, a secret disco and our trademark loving touch and you’ll be in no doubt why Bestival exceeded all expectations for all the fun-filled festivalgoers who joined us across the weekend from all over the globe.
Providing the backdrop to the first ever Southeast Asian Bestival, was the stunning Garuda Wisnu Kencana. With breath-taking vistas across the tropical landscape of Bali, and with over 240 acres of parkland centred around 25m high limestone-carved cliffs, this beautiful venue was the perfect spot to host some of the biggest international and local talent over Bestival’s two days.
In regards to the volcano the festival is planning on moving forward accordingly. We are keen to assure our audience that safety is of paramount importance to us.
We have been following the advice of government agencies here in Bali and have been assured that Bestival can safely proceed due to the festival site being over 75km from the exclusion zone, all other tourist areas of Bali are also unaffected and the airport is fully operational.
From here on out 100,000 IDR from every ticket sold will be donated to the disaster fund to help those who have been / may be affected by the evacuation near Mt Agung.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update if there are any changes. We are very much looking forward to the inaugural Bestival Bali this weekend.
We’re pleased to announce the line-ups for Saturday and Sunday for Bestival’s debut in Bali. Check out what day your favourite artists are playing below. To purchase day tickets please click here
In the next of our Q&A sessions with Bestival’s headliners we catch up with Gus from the super talented alt-J. No strangers to Bestival, the band have triumphed on every stage we’ve thrown them on in the UK, which is why we’ve invited them along to play at Bestival Bali for what promises to be a performance of epic proportions.
Ever been to Bali?
Nope, this will be my first time – same for all of the band.
Meditation or hiking a volcano?
I’d take the hike – you can meditate anywhere but volcanoes aren’t that easy to find.
Desert Island album of choice?
Abbey Road by The Beatles – it’s got everything you need, like a Swiss army knife.
Best ever sunset?
I went to a wedding in Whitstable, on the English coast, recently, and watched a perfect red orb of a sun dip below the water with my fiancee, my best friends and a pint of beer. Pretty perfect.
Surfing or fishing?
Neither appeals to me much, though if pushed I’d say fishing as it might end in something to eat.
Top tip for travelling to a paradise island?
Well it’ll be my first time, but I’m planning on bringing a white Gray-Nicolls cricket hat to keep the sun off.
What’s in your luggage?
Other than the usual boring stuff, I have card games, a compact 35mm film camera and usually a few issues of the New Yorker I haven’t go round to reading yet.
If you could name a tropical island, what would you call it?

Adding to an already jam-packed line-up, Bestival Bali has added the multi-platinum selling Pendulum, who will be playing an exclusive DJ set in their iconic, electronic rock style. Also, hailing from Australia, new artists to hit the bill include electro-duo, Bag Raiders, multi-instrumentalist, Kilter, and the tech-house powerhouse, Colour Castle.
The new announced acts follow Bestival Bali’s first artist announcement, featuring old friends and new from Alt-J to Purity Ring and De La Soul. Promising to make the inaugural edition one to remember, Bestival will bring its trademark unique, creative vision from the UK to the paradise island of Bali, Indonesia.
Rob da Bank, Bestival curator says “So here we are upping the ante with our first foray into Indonesia’s festival scene. We’ve got some old-school legends, hip hop wizardry and indie beauties, so we’re adding some serious antipodean vibes with the like of Pendulum, Bag Raiders and Kilter who are all smashing it down under. We’re only a (long) stone’s throw from Australia so you’ve no excuse. Book ya flight!”
First up, the mighty Pendulum! Taking to the hallowed Bestival decks, the festival is honoured to welcome the founding member of one of the most exciting musical forces of the last decade – Paul ‘El Hornet’ Harding of drum & bass and metal behemoths Pendulum. Landing in Bali as part of a busy summer, that includes a residency at legendary Ibiza super club Amnesia, expect some insane drum & bass action from one of the finest DJs in the game.
Australian duo Jack Glass and Chris Stacey are Bag Raiders, purveyors of spectacular electronic madness that has been setting the world alight since their debut EP was unleashed over a decade ago. Chances are, if you’ve stumbled into a club, wobbled at a party, looked into the light at a festival or dawdled along the radio dial then you’ve been exposed to the majesty of Bag Raiders, who now bring their incredible live show to Bestival Bali.
One of Australia’s top 20 most streamed electronic artists, Kilter has quickly made the leap from burgeoning multi-instrumentalist to household name. Adored by listeners from all corners of the internet and festivalgoers alike for his euphoric, energised sound, Kilter is the moniker for 24-year-old Sydney rising star Ned East. Having amassed 40 million streams online, multiple visits to the top of Hype Machine charts and triumphed in the Triple J Like A Version studio, he has extensively toured Australia and played every major festival in the country. 2016 saw Kilter depart on his debut UK/EU tour and 2017 saw him touring across America.
Renowned for his melodic poolside grooves and slamming late night stompers, Colour Castle has been a driving force on the Aussie tech house scene for years now, gaining favour with the likes of Carl Cox, Doorly and Hannah Wants with one powerhouse release after another.
Bestival Bali will take place at the incredible Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK Cultural Park). With breath-taking vistas across the tropical landscape of Bali, and with over 240 acres of parkland centred around 25m high limestone-carved cliffs. Bestival will entertain the audience with eclectic music from around the globe as well as offering immersive experiences, delicious food and unforgettable shenanigans – in a way that only Bestival can.
Karma Group’s award-winning flagship Bali resort, Karma Kandara stands as a testament to the singular will and vision of Karma Founder and Chairman, John Spence. Gracing a verdant clifftop along Bali’s coveted ‘Millionaire’s Row’, and often the resort of choice for celebrities, Karma Kandara epitomises the style of laid-back luxury the Island of the Gods is so famous for. Designed to bring the allure of Bali into the room through every line and curve, the resort’s spacious one to four bedroom pool villas nestle along the clifftop, with many villas holding a commanding view of the azure Indian Ocean.
Karma Kandara’s amenities are second to none. The resort’s di Mare restaurant offers quite possibly the best dinnertime view in all Bali, while Karma Spa is a multi-award winning wellness retreat par excellence. Situated on a private beach, Karma Beach Bali – a Mediterranean-style beach club with Balinese flourish – is continually recognised as one of the top beaches in Bali and regularly plays host to the who’s who of the international jet-set.
Put your hands together for the one, the only De La Soul, hip-hop legends with a difference.
Formed in Long Island in 1987 De La Soul landed in a hip-hop landscape almost exclusively concerned with all things Gangsta and immediately brought a breath of fresh air to the genre with their incredible debut 3 Feet High and Rising, an album of startling originality that carried messages of love, positivity and peace that were worlds away from the misogynistic leanings of the rap fraternity of the time.
In the first of our Q&A sessions with Bali’s headliners, we speak to POS – aka Kelvin Mercer:
You can catch De La Soul at the Bali edition of Bestival. Limited presale tickets available here.
The UK’s multi-award winning festival, Bestival, is setting sail for a new adventure in Bali on 30th September and 1st October 2017.

Bestival curator Rob da Bank says: “Well I can’t think of a better place in the world to do a new festival than Bali – a beautiful country, incredible culture, great music and don’t even get me started on the surf, history, nature and people… We are honoured to be bringing Bestival to Bali and promise to deliver a sublime festival experience reflecting being on the Island Of Gods from funk pioneer George Clinton and hip hop royalty De La Soul to indie heroes alt-J and Purity Ring it’s gonna be the best!”

The drum and bass band, who previously collaborated with pop royalty including Ella Eyre, Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sande, to name a few, will be on-hand to deliver one of their high-energy DJ sets. D.A.I.S.Y Age legends, De La Soul, will be gracing the stage with some of their classic back catalogue. After releasing a phenomenal 17 albums, the hip-hop trio will celebrate 30 years of De La Soul this year. Not to be missed!
